A WEEKEND WITH DANTE Discovering the places of the Supreme Poet

DAY 1 (Option A)

Full Day Excursion “The Castles”: first part, by Casentino Escursioni.

The path, with a difference in height of 450 meters and a length of 19 miles, is simple and can be done both by mountain bike and e-bike. Suitable for ages 10 and up. The minimum number of participants required is 2 people.

• 10:00 am Meeting with the guide and departure from the “La Crocina” car park in Poppi, direction Quota village!
• 1:00 pm Lunch break. Recommended Osteria del Sasso a Quota or packed lunch in the bread and oil shop
• 3:00 pm After the break, we move to Raggiolo, following the road that passes from San Martino in Tremoleto and then continues along the cycle path. Visit to the delightful village of Raggiolo and resume the cycle path up to the Buiano intersection. Arrival at the Fregnan Winery where a tasting of their wines with a small buffet awaits you. Departure for Poppi, round trip in the historic center and return to the “la Crocina” car park.
• 8.00 pm dinner at Poggio di Dante
• Overnight at Poggio di Dante

DAY 1 (Option B)

Half Day guided excursion “The Castles”: first part, by Caterina Zaru

• 3.00 pm Meeting at the Poppi Castle with the guide. Half day guided tour that includes Castle, Borgo and Abbey. Ideal for families, we offer, in addition to the guided tour, flight demonstrations by Gherardo Brami (optional).
• 20:00 Free dinner, suggestions: La Taverna del Castello, Casentino Restaurant, Il Piccolo Ristoro restaurant
• Overnight at Poggio di Dante

DAY 2

Full Day Excursion “The Castles”: second part, in the places of the Casentino that the Supreme Poet “lived”, by Marco Messina

• 9:00 am Meeting with the guide in front of the castle. The walking tour will be characterized by the reading and commentary of famous passages from the Divine Comedy that are inspired by these sites. Visit to Poppi, one of the “most beautiful villages in Italy” and in particular to the famous Castello dei Conti Guidi that host the spectacular miniature reconstruction of the Battle of Campaldino in which Dante participated as a Guelph “feditor”
• Transfer by your own to the Pieve di Romena
• 1:00 pm Free lunch. Recommended La Tana degli Orsi, Oasi di Samira, Toscana Twist, Ristorante i 4 cantoni
• 3:00 pm Guided tour of one of the most fascinating Romanesque churches of the Casentino: the Pieve di Romena admired by the great poet during his stay in the valley. Not far away we find the homonymous Castle; it is here that Dante was so influenced by the “group” conformation of the internal prisons, so much so that he re-proposed the same scheme for the Inferno of his Comedy.
• 8:00 pm free dinner, suggestions: Osteria il porto, Osteria del vecchio Ponte, Osteria del tempo perso, Font’Alle Fate
• Overnight at Poggio di Dante

DAY 3

Bike tour “Le vie degli Idoli”, by Casentino Escursioni

• 10:00 am it is advisable to get a packed lunch before departure because there are no services along the way. Departure from Stia
• 1:00 pm Packed lunch. Recommended shop Da Giubbino (Pratovecchio)
• 3:00 pm Guided tour of the Archaeological Museum of Casentino
