Castelluccio di Riosecco
The fortification is mentioned for the first time in 1124, in a donation made by the monks of S. Fedele di Strumi, regarding some lands located in “Riosicco castro et in pendice”.
From the rocky spur on the opposite side and to the right of the Arno, the tower has been watching over the valley for about a thousand years.
All around it, from the roof terrace, one can see: seven hectares of woodland dotted with cypress trees, the terraced garden at various levels, a pool of fresh, revitalizing spring water flowing from the rock and serving as a swimming pool.
The restoration of the tower was aimed at preserving the building, while at the same time adapting it to a residential purpose compatible with the character of the medieval building, thus protecting its remains as they have come down to us for future generations.
The principles for its reconstruction are based on the aim of recreating a new volume within the old volume, i.e. set back a little, to make it recognizable by following the original wall perimeter.
The idea was to subdivide the interior spaces with light textile structures, in contrast to the severity of the load-bearing structures in stone blocks left exposed, thus maintaining the proportions of the original environment.
