The Castagnatura festival has taken place for almost thirty years on the last weekend of October.
The event dedicated to enhancing the traditions and autumn flavors of Casentino is scheduled for Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th October when the small village on the slopes of Pratomagno will come back to life with one of the most anticipated and popular events of the year.
The Chestnut Festival, promoted by the Raggiolo Brigade in collaboration with the Municipality of Ortignano Raggiolo and the Casentino Ecomuseum, will offer a weekend full of events for all ages including shows, re-enactments, stories, live music, craft and typical local products markets and above all gastronomy.
Everything will take place among the alleys and squares of “Uno dei Borgh più belli d’Italia” immersed in the charm and colors of autumn.
The underlying theme of the event will be the discovery of the world of chestnuts between present and past.
Visitors will be accompanied to discover a fruit that for centuries has been the basis of local economy and diet.
The Chestnut Festival will offer guided walks to discover Raggiolo history and traditions, tastings of seasonal specialities, demonstrations of the ancient pounding of chestnuts and the preparation of polenta, a market with local and artisanal products, folk songs and dances, shows of puppets for the children, pony rides, visits tothe typical places of chestnut culture such as the squeegee, the mill or the Ecomuseum, as well as moments of entertainment for children and adults.
On the evening of Saturday 28th, dinner will be held in the square around the burning log and the large chestnut brazier, while on Sunday 29th food stands will be set up along the streets of the village.
